What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the scientific focus on behaviors that are observable and measurable.  ABA utilizes principles of motivation and learning, with Positive Reinforcement being the most common approach in addressing behaviors.

How are ABA Programs Developed?

All of our ABA programs are developed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), who are experts in understanding how behavior works in real life situations. They develop extensive programs to increase behaviors that are helpful to the client and decrease behaviors that are harmful or obstructive to learning.  These specialized programs are then implemented by behavior therapists under the supervision of a BCBA.

The Goal of ABA Therapy

ABA programs strive to increase functional communication, age-appropriate social skills, and independence in completing activities of daily living, while decreasing problematic behaviors.

Behavior Intervention Plan

A Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) is the concrete plan of action for managing the individuals problematic behavior. The BCBAs develop BIPs from the observations made in a Functional Behavioral Assessment.

Functional Behavior Assessments

A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a process that identifies specific target behavior, the purpose of the behavior, and what factors maintain the behavior that is interfering with the child’s progress.

Discrete Trial Teaching

Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) is a highly structured system of introducing new skills incrementally. DTT is often used to teach verbal and motor imitation, language and communication skills and can even be used to teach complex skills such as using a phone or getting dressed.

Parent Training

Parental training provides you with knowledge of behavioral concepts and strategies to maximize your child’s success and improve their quality of life. The goal is to help your child generalize their skills –in other words, applying the skills they are learning to home, school, and community settings.

Social Skills Training

Some children find it difficult to engage with peers, teachers, family members and others in their school or community. Social skills may be addressed to increase the child’s ability to establish and maintain age-appropriate relationships and interact within their community.

Natural Environment Teaching

Natural Environment Teaching incorporates teaching while engaging in the child’s favorite activities, or within the context of “everyday” life. This form of instruction helps the child learn how to use newly acquired skills in a variety of settings.
